Boat Registration Fees
Kentucky registration fees are based on boat length. These fees do not include county clerk fees, taxes, or other applicable charges.

Do You Need to Register Your Boat?
Most mechanically powered boats operated in Kentucky must be registered through a Kentucky county clerk’s office.
- Registration is required for most motorized boats
- Boat registrations expire April 30 each year
- You may register in your county of residence or principal use
- Boats registered in another state may operate in Kentucky for up to 60 consecutive days without Kentucky registration
- Your registration certificate must be kept onboard while operating the boat
Proper Display of Registration Numbers
Kentucky requires registration numbers and decals to be properly displayed on the forward half of the boat.
- Numbers must be read left to right
- Letters and numbers must be block style
- Minimum 3-inch letter height
- Numbers must contrast with the hull color
- Spaces are required between letters and numbers

KY1234AA
Registration decals should be placed within six inches behind the registration number.
